If you’re having trouble falling asleep, you’re not alone… A sleep technique is currently going viral on TikTok to help you fall asleep fast. This military sleep method is said to have originally been designed to help US combat soldiers fall asleep within two minutes, and has now resurfaced thanks to TikTok fitness expert Justin Agustin.
Influencer shared his experience with the military sleep method and how it can help you fall asleep in two minutes.
This sleep technique can take up to six weeks to become effective, says Agustin, but is noted to be relaxing from the start. Being comfortable is certainly one of the best ways to fall asleep.
Like other breath-based sleep techniques, this method focuses on relaxing your entire body and calming your mind. You do this by focusing on your breathing and releasing all tension in your muscles.
To fall asleep in 2 minutes, you need to do:
- Relax your facial muscles and focus on your breathing (keep it steady and slow).
- Release all tension by lowering your shoulders, keeping your arms at your sides and fingers relaxed.
- Exhale deeply and slowly, relax your legs and feet and release any tension held there.
- Flex and release your feet, imagining a warm sensation running from your head to your toes.
- As you do this, clear your mind of all thoughts. To do this, you can imagine one of the following two images:
-You are lying on your back in a canoe floating calmly on a pristine lake with a clear blue sky above you;
OR…
-Sleeping in a soft, black velvet hammock in a quiet, pitch-dark room.
Of course your mind will not be idle and will try to contemplate other thoughts, so when this happens, silently repeat the following words for 10 seconds before returning to visualization and deep breathing: “Don’t think. Don’t think. Don’t think.’
It is said that for it to be fully effective you need to practice this sleep technique every night for six weeks.Just like a habit or muscle you need to build strength and the more you do this the more your brain will know when it’s time to sleep.
Agustin claims that 96% of people who master the military sleep method are able to fall asleep within two minutes of starting a workout. Subscribers to his channel have had mixed responses to the technique, some claiming it works 100%, others say it sometimes works. But all of them are better than normal. seems to agree that it helps them fall asleep much faster…
