The COVID-19 pandemic, which has been in our lives for a long time, continues to continue its effects without slowing down. The rapid spread of the Omicron variant also shows us that the pandemic will take place in our lives for a while. As we all know, experts emphasize in almost every statement that the biggest weapon against the disease is still the vaccine. For this reason, countries such as Austria are trying to take steps to combat the pandemic by requiring their citizens to be vaccinated.
With the emergence of Omicron, the importance of the third dose of vaccine, called ‘reminder dose or booster dose’, increased by scientists. Now, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has shared new data on the effect of two and three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in adults.
Unvaccinated people are 49 times more likely to be hospitalized than those with a third dose
According to data from the CDC, people over the age of 65 who are not vaccinated for COVID are 49 times more likely to be hospitalized than those with the third dose, or reminder dose. In addition, it was among the published data that the hospitalization rate of adults aged 50-64 was 44 times higher than those who were vaccinated and immunized.
Data from the CDC also observed how two-dose vaccines affected adult hospitalization rates. According to the data, a 94% decrease was observed in the hospitalization rates of adults with two doses of Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, which are widely used around the world, and the importance of the vaccines was revealed once again.
It is emphasized by scientists that the third dose can be between 75% and 80% effective against the Omicron variant, which affects the world and causes the emergence of case records. Many countries, including our country, continue to implement reminder doses without slowing down, both for this reason and because the effect of the two-dose vaccine has decreased.
