There is very little time left for Starfield, one of the most anticipated games, to be released on September 6. And those who want to play the game may be wondering how much storage they will need.

We can say that Starfield will occupy a very large space of 100.19 GB on Xbox Series X|S. And that only applies to the Standard Edition. Premium Edition owners can expect the install size to increase to 117.07GB.

PC and Steam users are even worse off; Bethesda’s space RPG takes up 139.84 GB.

That puts Starfield on par with some of the biggest and best Xbox Series X titles, like Halo Infinite (97GB), Microsoft Flight Simulator (102GB), and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (103GB), at least without any additional DLC or updates installed.

As a result, it may be in your best interest to free up as much space on your console or computer as possible by deleting old games that you no longer play. Or alternatively, invest in one of the Xbox Series X hard drives and SSDs like the Seagate Xbox Storage Expansion Card or the WD Black C50 to make sure you’re not missing out on launch day.

If you’ve pre-ordered the game or are planning to download it from the Xbox Game Pass subscription service, you can pre-install Starfield on Xbox Series X|S and PC right now. However, Steam players have to wait until August 30.

Your Xbox Series X has about 800GB of usable storage, even though it says 1TB on the box. The operating system and other pre-installed programs use about 200GB of space. The situation is even worse on the Xbox Series S, after the OS is loaded the storage drops from about 512GB to 364GB. That means owners of existing consoles that are cheaper than Microsoft’s may have trouble installing Starfield without additional storage.
