READING NOW How eFootball 2022 was the biggest debacle in history: Here’s why!

PES, KONAMI’s almost legendary series especially for players in Turkey, aimed to enter a brand new era with the name change it made this year. Aiming to take the series one step further with the name of eFootball 2022, KONAMI came up with a fiasco.

We will talk about the reasons why eFootball 2022, which was declared the worst game in Steam history by the players in just one day, faced such a huge reaction.

Why was the name PES abandoned?

As you know, the origin of the PES series World Soccer Winning Eleven is based on the abbreviation Winning Eleven. The series, which continued until the 6th game under the name of Pro Evolution Soccer, continued on its way as PES in 2008.

During the intervening years, especially with each generation change, the PES series has taken a critical decision towards the middle of 2020. Considering that the series could not go far enough and could not make a big change, KONAMI almost bypassed PES 2021 and released a squad update to the players.

Why eFootball 2022?

Published as eFootball PES 2021 Season Update, the game, which is exactly the same as PES 2020, was presented by KONAMI as an interim game for the transition process. The Japanese company stated that they want to design a perfect game during the transition to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and that they will work for PES 2022 for 2 years to transition to the new generation.

KONAMI has decided to completely change its name to accompany the game’s skin change. The game, which was announced in the past months as eFootball 2022, was presented to the players with its Beta version in the past months.

The production that faced the actors was so bad that; It was discussed by many that the Beta version of the game was taken from the mobile version and was designed only to try the multiplayer mode, and the full version began to be expected.

Perhaps the worst game in PES history: eFootball 2022

Finally, the expected day came: eFootball 2022 was released on September 30, 2021 and the apocalypse broke out. The release of the game on Steam and console stores caused an outrage. eFootball 2022, which PES lovers have been waiting for 2 years and preparing to see a new generation football experience, appeared before the players with its mobile game quality.

From its graphics to its gameplay, from its controls to its animations, eFootball 2022, which looks as if it was released 20 years late, was put to the ground on all platforms it was released on. The game, which presented an apologetic experience to KONAMI, less than a day after meeting with the players, has already lost many fans to the FIFA series.

Why is eFootball 2022 so buried?

First of all, as you’ll see when you first start the game, the ‘thing’ on the field looks more like anything than football. In every moment of the game, you feel like you are watching the strange movements of 22 people who have never seen a soccer ball in their life. The animations, the first touches, the shots of the players… It’s far from feeling like you’re dominating a football match.

As KONAMI also admitted in a statement, passing is pure torture. It is impossible for you to pass the pass with the intensity you want, even to a player two steps away. With all these gameplay problems, the goalkeepers leaving the castle and going to strange places, the football players who get caught in the net for about 15 minutes while enjoying the goal, and whose feet turn upside down while passing the ball, things get out of hand.

In the image above, you can see a screenshot taken about 1 hour before writing this article. It is very difficult to say anything about the multiplayer experience of the game: As a matter of fact, the game cannot even find an opponent for you! Even if you find an opponent after waiting for hours, the game throws you or your opponent out of the game after a short time. The online servers, which were tested for about 2 months, crashed from the very first day.

Gameplay isn’t the only problem…

The game’s problems do not end there. License problems for several years continue with eFootball 2022. There are currently 8 licensed teams in the game: Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Manchester United, Arsenal, Corinthians, Flamengo and Sao Paulo. Apart from these teams, other teams take place with made-up logos and team names that are tried to be likened to the real ones.

Finally, let’s talk about the graphics: The claim that eFootball 2022 is a new generation game can be called an insult to other new generation games. As a player who has experienced the production on both PS5 and PC, I can say that there is almost no difference between the two versions. Likewise, the PS4 and Xbox One versions are almost exactly the same as the other versions.

Face animations of famous football players that look more like everyone else, almost one-dimensional audiences, grasses that are not even related to the published trailer, players are faced with enough problems to count. In the meantime, it is a matter of great curiosity as of now how KONAMI will recover the game. With the new generation, brand new mechanics and game engine, the PES series has faced the biggest debacle in its history.
