You now have the chance to take a 3D digital tour inside the Great Pyramid of Giza. Also known as the Pyramid of Khufu, the pyramid was photographed by the researchers so you can virtually navigate through the three inner chambers.
The tour begins with you entering through a tunnel believed to have been opened by robbers in 820. Including the King’s chamber at the top of the Tura pyramid, the Queen’s chamber in the middle, and an underground chamber of unknown purpose. Although the Pyramids of Giza actually consist of 3 pyramids, Khufu is known as the largest of the Egyptian pyramids and is home to the tomb of the Fourth Dynasty pharaoh Khufu.
Construction of the Khufu pyramid began around 2,550 BC. The pyramid was built using approximately 2.3 million stone blocks, each weighing between 2.5 and 15 tons. Getting 8,000 tons of granite from Aswan, more than 800 kilometers (500 miles) away, was a challenge in itself.
The pyramid was thought to have been built by slaves for years. But in the 1990s, discoveries at the nearby pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure revealed that the pyramids were actually built by wage workers. Because workers were found buried in mud-brick graves with alcohol and bread to take them to the hereafter. This privilege was not given to slaves.
