Elon Musk responded to the allegations that Starlink satellites occupy too much space in Earth orbit and pose a danger. Musk, who has already launched just under 1,900 satellites and is waiting for the next thousands, says there is still enough space in low Earth orbit.
Speaking to the Financial Times, the SpaceX and Tesla owner explained the impact of the Starlink fleet by saying, “Space is a huge place, and Starlink is only a few thousand out of the millions of cars on Earth.” Despite these promises, the scale of Musk’s activities in orbit draws considerable criticism. His latest statement came after the head of the European Space Agency, Josef Aschbacher, criticized the criticism that “Half of the Earth’s active satellite inventory is in Musk’s hands.” In addition, China also complained that Musk’s satellites were posing a danger in space.
As part of Musk’s attempt to wrap the Earth with Starlink satellites, he has plans to send a total of 30,000 satellites into space. Scientists say that filling the orbit with so many satellites could create problems for future space missions.
