Sophie Zhang, who stated that she worked as a data scientist at Facebook for about three years, but was later fired from the company due to performance problems, expressed that she felt “blood on her hands” by condoning Facebook’s negligence during her employment.
The young woman, who made statements to CNN Business, stated that Facebook did not do enough to prevent hate speech and misinformation, and that she wanted to testify before the congress, just like Frances Haugen, who used the words “Facebook is poisonous for young people”.
Facebook turns a blind eye to platform abuse
Stating that he had previously submitted documents to the US law enforcement agencies showing that Facebook violated the rules, Zhang said that after Frances Haugen’s speech to the Senate in the past weeks, she was encouraged and that she would present the documents she has to many organizations, including the FBI. The former employee said, “As far as I understand, the investigation continues” regarding the documents he gave to law enforcement.
In Zhang’s statements, he stated that although 90% of monthly active users live outside the USA, Facebook does not make any effort to secure the platform in countries other than the USA and they condone the abuse of the platform.
