Hong Kong’s regulator has released a discussion paper that addresses the key issues regarding a CBDC for individual users.
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has released a discussion paper on the individual (retail) central bank digital currency (CBDC). The discussion paper focuses on policy and design issues related to the Hong Kong dollar; the regulatory body is working on issues such as the regulation mechanism, interoperability with other payment systems, privacy and data protection.
HKMA published its review on the subject last October. In that document, potential architectures and design options for building an infrastructure for the CBDC were examined.
