More than 110 years later, another sad news came in the vast waters where the Titanic sank. The submarine belonging to the company called OceanGate, which organizes paid trips to the Titanic, was lost in the ocean.

While there was little development after the incident on Sunday, it turned out that the submarine was controlled with a joystick. While this detail went to the strangest of the whole world, another great coincidence came to light today.

The wife of the founder of OceanGate and the pilot of the submarine, granddaughter of those who lost their lives in the Titanic disaster:

  • Left: Wendy Rush, Right: Stockton Rush.

According to information shared by The New York Times, Wendy Rush, the pilot of the missing submarine and the wife of the company’s founder, Stockton Rush, was the great-granddaughter of two first class passengers who lost their lives on the Titanic that sank in 1912.

According to this information from the archives, Rush’s great-great-grandparents who died on the Titanic were Isidor and Ida Straus. Isidor, from the wealthy family of the period, was also one of the founding partners of the popular clothing brand Macy’s.

Moreover, the duo of Isidor and Ida Straus also appeared in the movie Titanic, which was released in 1997. The two were shown hugging in bed as the ship flooded. Another scene showing a well-known story of the duo was not included in the movie section of the movie:

The story was told that Ida and Isidor, one a woman and the other a former and well-known congressman, were going to get on the boat themselves. However, Isidor said that she would not get on the boat until all the women and children on board got on the boat, and Ida refused to go anywhere without her husband.

Although the body of Isidor Straus was found about two weeks after the sinking of the Titanic, Ida Straus’ body was never found.

The couple’s son, Richard Weil Jr., presided over the New York leg of Macy’s, his son Dr. Richard Weil III had advanced to his career as a doctor. Dr. Richard Weil III later became Wendy Rush’s father.
