Highest Resolution Photo of the Sun Ever!

The Solar Orbiter, which the European Space Agency (ESA) launched into space to study the Sun in 2020, managed to capture an unprecedented photo. The satellite’s ultraviolet imager photographed the Sun’s outer atmosphere for the first time in history at a resolution of 83 million pixels. The shared photo reveals that the Sun has a very different and unique structure than what we see.

Solar Orbiter has reached a distance of 75 million kilometers from the Sun in order to capture the image that we will share with you shortly. The satellite, which took 25 different images for 4 hours, managed to create an image of 9,148 x 9,112 pixels. This high resolution image is not the only trick of Solar Orbiter. Ultraviolet rays emitted by different atoms in the Sun were also imaged with an equipment called SPICE on the satellite.
