Google has started rolling out its email drafting tool, Help Me Write, to Android and iOS devices. The generative AI tool, part of Workspace Labs, was announced at the Google I/O 2023 event last month and is now available for users to try on the web version of Gmail.

Spotted by 9to5Google, the email authoring tool on Android and iOS works similarly to the desktop version of Gmail. You can send natural language prompts to the AI that drafts emails as needed. Email draft help can be edited with a variety of options such as Formalize, Detail, Trim or I’m Feeling Lucky. Also, if you don’t like the draft, you can ask the AI tool to rewrite the text, but keep in mind that once you’ve requested a new text, you can’t go back to the previous version.

Help Me Write is offered as part of Google Workspace Labs, a testing program that allows users to try out new AI features in Google’s business apps like Gmail, Docs or Slides. However, Google warns you not to “consider Workspace Labs features as medical, legal, financial or other professional advice.”

To use Help Me Write, you first need to open the Gmail app on your Android or iPhone and tap the Create button. You will see the Help Me Write button in the lower right corner of this screen. Here you can edit the AI-generated text however you want and also send feedback to Google.

Also, you need to register with Google Workspace Labs to use Help Me Write on your device. If you are new to the program, it may take some time for the feature to arrive on your mobile app. Google’s AI typing assistant is also available in Google Docs, where you can give prompts to write a blog post or rewrite existing text to add more detail.
