The US army is taking a bold step in artificial intelligence military planning. The Ministry of Defense (DOD) is now turning to AI to analyze threats, simulate war results, and help military leaders allocate resources faster.
This step is part of the Thunderforge project. The project aims to develop new methods about how to plan and carry out wars. At this point, artificial intelligence promises a lot. However, it also brings some serious risks. For decades, military strategy has been based on human expertise, intelligence reports and historical analysis. However, traditional methods are difficult to keep up with the modern wars that conflicts can climb in minutes. And the Pentagon sees artificial intelligence as a way to close this gap.
Thunderforge will support artificial intelligence, as well as other things, as well as task planning. Artificial intelligence will plan war scenarios, predict enemy movements and improve military strategies. The system will first be deployed at the US Indo-Pacific Command and the European Command. The other 11 combats are then planned to be integrated into the command.
Will technology companies develop war applications?
At the center of the project, there are technology companies such as Scale AI, Anduril and Microsoft. Each of them contributes to artificial intelligence -supported vehicles to make this new vision a reality. However, relying on artificial intelligence in military decision -making is also a high -risk gambling. If artificial intelligence makes mistakes or hacking, great risks arise.
If the army relieves artificial intelligence -supported insights and planning too much, strategic miscalculation can lead to destructive consequences. There are also ethical and legal concerns. Taking this into account, it is understood that Pentagon will use artificial intelligence with various security controls and consent processes. Of course, other countries will develop similar artificial intelligence processes and after a while we can begin to see that wars are between artificial intelligence. In other words, it seems that we are going towards the world where the computer will win.
