While the COVID-19 pandemic was wreaking havoc, it also brought its own stars to the stage. And one of those stars was undoubtedly Zoom. The first application that comes to mind when it comes to working from home has been Zoom ever since.
But now the same Zoom is almost contradicting itself by making a very interesting decision. Video conferencing giant Zoom is strangely asking its employees to return to the office.
The company now requires employees living within 80 km of a Zoom office to come to the office at least two days a week. The new return-to-office requirement means a full 180-degree change from what Zoom previously said.
A company spokesperson believes that having a certain number of employees living near the office is the most effective method for Zoom. On the other hand, he says they will continue to take advantage of the entire Zoom platform to keep employees and remote teams connected and working efficiently.
Zoom laid off about 1,300 employees in and around the San Francisco Bay area in February. The company has not made another layoff announcement since then. So to avoid this happening again, it may not be a problem for some employees to come to the office twice a week.
