Australia is a country/continent that often comes up on the internet with its deadly wildlife. In a new report, we see a guest of an Australian man who has been living with him for a year. In a post on the Australian spider identification page on Facebook, Jake Gray said a huge hunting spider had stayed in his home for the past year and “watched it grow”.

If many people see this spider in their home, they will rightly decide that it is time to get away from the house and sign a serious pest control company. However, Jake does not follow this generalization and sees the spider as a “housemate candidate”. Jake even wrote on Facebook that he hopes it will get a little bigger as time goes on.

“Hunter spiders have always been tolerated in our home because of their appetite for cockroaches, and we don’t use all chemicals that are toxic to insects,” Jake said in an interview with IFLScience. He even says he named the spider Charlotte to calm his son and daughter’s anxieties.

“It was impressive to see her eat an Asian house gecko,” says Jack, who first saw Charlotte 12 months ago.

This spider species is actually not as dangerous as it seems. While Holconia immanis, also known as the Sydney hunter, is a venomous spider, it is unlikely to use its venom on any human being. These spiders prefer to run rather than bite people, and when they bite, there is a slight effect.

The main way these spiders harm you is by scaring you, causing you to do something very dangerous. They grow to about 15 centimeters and are quite fast.
