After Elon Musk bought Twitter, the world literally turned into a place of war. Musk, who fired the employees in the company one by one, made the blue tick paid and forgave many users who were banned from Twitter.

Although Musk says that he will reduce hate speech on the platform and pave the way for freedom of expression, published reports show the opposite.

Hate speech increased 260%

The research, organized by the Digital Anti-Hate Center, measured that the platform’s hate speech increased by 260% when all tweets between the 18th and 24th of November were examined. In just one week, the N-word on the platform was used 30,546 times, while the rate of swearing and insulting gay men increased by 91%. Insults against transgender people increased by 63%, while verbal attacks on Latinos increased by 64%.

Moreover, on November 24, Elon Musk’s statement on Twitter that he reduced hate speech by 1/3, inflamed the discussions. Although Musk states that he will pave the way for freedom of expression on the platform and prevent hate speech, many Twitter users claim that Musk has blinded users with events such as banning Kanye West and does not actually prevent hate speech.

In addition, with a post he made today, Musk stated that the rates of hate speech on Twitter are still on the decline. He stated that they will publish weekly hate speech reports on their Twitter Safety account. Under the Twitter CEO’s post, many Twitter users made posts stating that users who were banned from Twitter due to racist and sexist rhetoric have returned and this is unfair.

Do you think hate speech on Twitter is decreasing or increasing?
