Since the size of the files sent via SMS and MMS is very limited, many people use alternative 3rd party applications such as WhatsApp and Telegram. However, Google announced that it is trying to develop an alternative cloud system with the Photos application. However, with the update that came this month, some users noticed that some features in the Messages app were gone. Here are the details…

Messages unlinked Google Photos

Although Google initially said it would only upload videos to the cloud to allow us to send videos as a link, it also allowed us to actively forward photos. But with the latest update, the “Always send images with link in text (SMS/MMS)” option in the “Google Photos” menu in Messages has been removed.

It is not yet clear whether this change to the Messages app was intentional or a bug. But on the Google Support page, it’s presumed to be intentional as it only shares information on posting clearer videos for this feature.

In addition, the company had included a statement in the 10.4 beta version of the Google Messages application that it shared 3 months ago, “You can share higher quality video in your messages (SMS and MMS)”. However, if the new feature saw low participation and use by users during the testing process, it may have been removed for this reason.

In addition, considering how the application compresses the size of the application to send files over SMS/MMS, it is said that the company may have switched to RCS instead, initiating the high-definition transfer process.

This feature was already not working as a typical message sending option. For example, you go to Photos and select a video or photo. Then you say send as a message. Then an SMS or MMS is sent to the other party.

When the image inside is clicked, it is displayed as if it came with a normal message. However, you are actually uploading this file to the cloud system. You send the link to the other party via SMS. For this reason, the first time we clicked on the image in the incoming message, internet was required to load it.

We’ll have to wait and see what Google plans for MMS file sending. What do you think about this subject? Don’t forget to share your feedback with us on the SDN Forum or in the comments!
