Half-Life, one of the biggest action series in the game world, has received a new fan-made VR mode. The developer team, which turned Half-Life 2 into a fully playable VR game, made the mode available on Steam.
How to play the free Half-Life 2: VR Mod?
Half-Life: Alyx, released in 2020, was actually a game developed by Valve for VR platforms. A team called Source VR Mod Team wanted to bring the popular Half-Life game to VR. Half-Life 2, released in 2004, can now be tested in virtual reality thanks to the VR mod.
The VR mod, which is available for free on Steam, can be tested by all players who have purchased Half-Life 2. The virtual reality version, which is still in beta, allows you to play the famous story from start to finish.
Although Source VR Mod Team did not share detailed information about Half-Life 2: VR Mod, they stated that they integrated a number of features found in Half-Life: Alyx into the game. For example, the weapon selection screen in Alyx is exactly the same in Half-Life 2.
Other VR features include optional laser light, gun magazine reloading, and ambidextrous weapon handling. Although the project is not finished yet, it is possible to say that it received very positive comments in the Steam community.
The VR project was first announced in 2017 and its development was completed in 2021. But the release of the mod was delayed until 2022. While Half-Life 2: VR Mod looks interesting, it’s not the first project that fans have brought to life. A Half-Life remake called Black Mesa was previously developed.
