A recent MailChimp data breach leaked hundreds of email accounts associated with the news release of Decentraland behind the metaverse coin MANA. Apparently the attack wasn’t directed at Decentraland but was part of a larger breach where malicious hackers used an internal attack to gain access to compromised accounts. Here are the details…

Emails registered to the Metaverse coin project’s newsletter leaked

MailChimp CISO Siobhan Smyth, according to a statement to TechCrunch on March 26, when the company received bad news that accessed a tool used by the company’s customer support team. became aware of the data breach after detecting a malicious actor. Then, a number of Social Engineering techniques were used to obtain specific information about several accounts. Decentraland published a blog post today that addresses the leak and reminds users to remain cautious as hackers may send emails impersonating official Decentraland accounts or the Decentraland Foundation.

According to TechCrunch report, more than 300 MailChimp accounts were hacked. It seems that hackers are specifically targeting accounts related to the cryptocurrency and financial sectors. Another company affected by the attack is Trezor, one of the most popular cryptocurrency hardware wallets. The latest attack comes amid a $625 million hack of Axie Infinity’s Ronin network, where hackers can exploit the blockchain and gain access to substantial amounts of Ethereum. As we reported as Kriptokoin.com, the Axie Infinity hack first took place on March 23, but the team was informed only a week later.
