South Korean Government’s Youtube Channel Hacked

According to the news in Yonhap News Agency, the official YouTube channel of the South Korean government has become the target of hackers. In a report based on the authorities’ statements, the attackers posted a crypto-themed video on the channel.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, the channel on the video sharing platform was renamed “SpaceX Invest”. Next, they livestreamed a video about cryptocurrencies that includes an interview with SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk.

An official from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of South Korea, who manages the YouTube account, announced that they were aware of the situation at 6 am and that they took the account back after a security measure. While YouTube’s parent company Google confirmed that the channel was hacked, it said it was investigating the cause.

Earlier this week, a YouTube account operated by the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) was also hacked. The channel, which has more than half a million subscribers, was hacked again the next day and is still unavailable.
