The hacker, who stole 20 Million Optimism (OP) tokens from Wintermute, returned 17 million of these coins.
Etherscan’s data shows 17 separate transfers of 1 million OP tokens starting at 12:09 UTC.
At the time of writing, the hacker still has 1 million OPs. The attacker previously sent 1 million tokens to Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin and sold another 1 million tokens immediately after the attack.
The aggressor remained true to his previous promise by returning most of the funds. Wintermute initially gave the hacker a week to return the funds and promised not to take any legal action.
