Regretful cyber attackers
Last week, Canada’s largest children’s hospital, SickKids, was hacked and ransomware dumped on systems. Staff had great difficulty accessing data. In particular, it was stated that diagnosis and treatment services were delayed.
After the incident became the agenda, LockBit, which is one of the world’s important hacker groups, issued an apology statement and stated that a sub-unit carried out the attack without their knowledge and that they absolutely avoided attacks that would harm human health. The required decryption key has been sent to the hospital, and access to the systems has started gradually.
LockBit makes ransom attacks on behalf of its partners and takes 20 percent of the revenue. He has attacked hospitals many times before and demanded ransom. It is unknown why he felt such remorse this time.
