A blockchain security company warns users of Web3 coin Stepn (GMT) about phishing sites. Hackers are hijacking seed words with fake Metamask plugin via Chrome browser…
Hackers target popular Web3 project
Well-known Blockchain security company Peckshield has now many phishing sites for Web3 lifestyle app (Stepn) revealed that. According to Peckshield, hackers hijack the seed words by adding a fake Metamask plugin to the user’s browser. Hackers thus have full access to the control panel of Stepn users.
In contrast, Peckshield immediately responded when they saw something suspicious about Stepn users’ accounts. Asked them to contact support. Some customers stated that they encountered errors and called support that fixed the issue. Wu Blockchain, a well-known crypto journalist from China, also tweeted about the attack, helping to spread the word even further. He underlined the following in his warnings during the day:
PeckShield has detected a number of Stepn phishing sites. They are adding a fake Metamask browser extension…
From Stephen’s Twitter account yet There was no update
On the other hand, Stepn has not yet recognized the attack or made an official statement on the subject. The announcement of the attack came nearly 20 hours after the Web3 lifestyle app AMA Twitter domains shut down on Twitter. Peckshield is one of the most reputable Twitter accounts for the crypto community to get first-hand information from the perpetrators when it comes to hacking and phishing schemes.
Web3 coin is up 50% this week, hits the hackers list
STEPN is the world’s first Move-to-Earn initiative and is based on Solana. It is a Web3 application that combines the elements of socialization, health and money making that sneakers or exercise enthusiasts can use at their own pace. It serves a concept where users can earn money by walking and thus exercising. The GMT price has risen more than 50% since last week as the ability to earn money while doing sports quickly gained global acceptance.
The latest hack attack did not affect the GMT price. As quoted by Kriptokoin.com, the slightly fluctuating GMT price during the day is trading at $3.27, 15% below the $3.80 ATH level. Security vulnerabilities related to the fake metamask plugin are expected to be closed in the coming days.
