Sony, whose sales of both smartphones and PlayStation 5 were below expectations, on the contrary, made significant gains from Spiderman and Venom movies. In addition, the high demand in the sensor market was also an important factor.
Sony movies are popular
As of the last quarter of last year, Sony subsidiaries had total revenues of around $26 billion and grew 13 percent annually. Operating profit, on the other hand, increased 32 percent to $4.11 billion. Music, production and sensor sales hit record levels.
Spiderman: No Way Home and Venom: Let There Be Carnage were last year’s champions. Thanks to this, the production division managed to generate revenues of $4.2 billion, an almost 3-fold increase. While the music division generated $2.8 billion in revenue, the sensor division also drew a successful chart with $3 billion.
Sony’s Electronics division, whose mobile device sales are already very low, has therefore regressed. Again, the PlayStation 5 sales, which decreased due to the chip crisis, put the Game section in a decrease of around 1 percent.
The table is not expected to change much in the new year. PlayStation 5 sales forecast has been pulled to around 11 million for this quarter. Smartphone sales are still a problem. However, the general phone market reaching record levels contributes to sensor sales. Morbius, Uncharted and SpiderMan SpiderVerse productions are expected to achieve record revenues again.
