While unmanned aerial vehicles continue to gain a bigger place in our lives day by day, even cargo delivery with drones has begun in various parts of the world. Of course, the increase in the number of unmanned aerial vehicles brings some applications only for these vehicles.

One of these applications was signed in the United Kingdom. The UK has given the first green light for the installation of the drone motorway, which will be the world’s longest ‘superhighway’. The length of the highway was shared as 164 miles (263 kilometers).

The area where the highway will be built:

The unmanned aerial vehicle-specific superhighway will be built within the scope of £273 million financing. The highway will run from Southampton city in the south and west of England and Bentwaters airbase in west London to Coventry city. The highway network will bear the name ‘Project Skyway’.

So why is this highway being built?

In the UK, drones and drones cannot be flown except in special circumstances unless a human pilot is present. Skyway, on the other hand, aims to enable unmanned aircraft manufacturers to connect their pilotless vehicles to a guide and communication system. In this way, the drones will be connected to a single system and will be able to safely go from one point to another in communication with each other in the air.

Drones will not need to have any extra equipment to benefit from the system. Instead, an organization called Altitude Angel will place 29 systems called ‘Arrow Towers’ on the earth. In addition, structures such as existing base stations will also be used within the system.

The highway will eventually enable them to deliver products and travel safely with drones.
