New leaks have emerged suggesting that Windows 12 is on the way. The claim was shared via @leaf_hobby and VideoCardz, who are known for their accurate leaks about Intel Xeon processors. The report states that Intel Meteor Lake processors, scheduled for release in the last quarter of 2023, may include 20 PCIe Gen 5 lanes and Windows 12 support.

Windows 12 may debut in 2024

As it is known, both AMD and Intel are competing to catch up with Apple’s artificial intelligence-supported Neural Engine unit, which can perform 15.8 trillion operations per second. At this point, there are important indications that Microsoft plans to add artificial intelligence-supported features to future versions of Windows.

For those who don’t know, Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s head of consumer marketing, said in a recent statement that “As we begin to develop future versions of Windows, we will consider other positions in which artificial intelligence should play a natural role in terms of experience.”

Sources close to the industry say that the company has started working with Intel for these new features and is returning to the three-year Windows release cycle. Microsoft did not share any developments on Windows 12, but if the claims are confirmed, we can say that Windows 12 will be showcased in 2024.

As a matter of fact, the software giant needs to work closely with hardware partners such as Intel and AMD for artificial intelligence workloads planned to be added to Windows 12. In this context, AMD recently launched its first Ryzen 7000 mobile processors, which include a custom AI engine. Similarly, Intel Meteor Lake processors are expected to include similar AI capabilities.
