Martı, an electric scooter rental startup established in 2019, has grown rapidly in a short time and has become one of the largest enterprises in the country. The company recently announced its newest service TAG (Let’s Go With One Vehicle). As the name suggests, TAG aims to enable people going in the same direction to travel together. In this service, which is stated to be launched to reduce vehicle density and air pollution, users can travel together via Martı TAG for certain fees determined by the driver.
After the announcement of the TAG service, which Martı stated that he would not receive any fee or commission, some tensions began to arise between the taxi drivers and Martı in recent days. In the past days, some taxi drivers have posted on social media reacting to Martı’s TAG initiative. While the startup was accused of ‘pirate’ taxi driving and putting stones to labor, CEO Öktem stated that TAG is not a passenger transportation service and is not a commercial activity that generates income.
Afterwards, a statement came from the Istanbul Taxi Professionals’ Chamber (ITEO). In a post on social media, there were allegations of ‘piracy’ again. ITEO in this post; He stated that legal proceedings have been initiated against Martı and necessary steps have been taken to cancel it.
