Blizzard has announced that Diablo IV is the fastest selling game in its history. This is a significant achievement for the developer behind not only the Diablo series but many other successful game franchises such as Warcraft, StarCraft and Overwatch.
Blizzard hasn’t offered any sales or revenue figures, but it’s clear that a lot of people pre-order Diablo IV ahead of its official launch. Blizzard said that in the four days it was in the early access period, players spent a total of 93 million hours in the game.
So far, the game seems to have been released without too much trouble. The company has released a major patch across all platforms for some class balance issues, along with a number of server-side fixes. An issue that caused many PlayStation players to be unable to log into servers was also quickly fixed.
Blizzard poured a lot of marketing and advertising money to promote Diablo IV. These included a promotional partnership with KFC, a package deal with Microsoft’s Xbox Series X console, and even painting a disused cathedral in France with artwork from the game.
