Both the economic conditions and the fact that the pandemic period is left behind seem to have a great impact on companies. Currently, Intel, AMD and Nvidia are trying to brace themselves by revising their revenue and sales forecasts for the rest of the year. However, as Nvidia and Intel expect to experience loss of revenue, global graphics card sales are expected to fall by 50 percent.

Intel and Nvidia are struggling

On the Intel side, the second quarter was a tough one and the process seems to continue. The firm expects a reduction in revenues of between $8 and $11 billion. In addition, the annual revenue target has been reduced to the level of 65 – 68 billion dollars. Intel also predicts a 10 percent decrease in PC sales compared to last year. This is actually not a surprise because the artificially increased demand with the COVID pandemic is now returning to normal quickly.

Things are not bright on the Nvidia side either. Both the declining demand after the pandemic and the major cryptocurrency crash earlier in the year have hit the green team. Taiwanese graphics card suppliers predict 2022 shipments will fall by 40-50 percent. In addition, sources state that Nvidia’s revenue may fall “beyond imagination”.

Things are going well at Apple and AMD

While other manufacturers struggle to increase their sales, AMD and Apple seem to have somehow managed to get rid of these problems across the industry. Having achieved record growth in consecutive financial quarter results, AMD managed to increase its revenues by 70 percent in the second quarter of the year. The market shares stolen from Intel by the data centers, the success of Ryzen processors and the acquisition of Xilinx form the basis of these revenues. Despite this, AMD has increased its sales loss expectation from 7-9 percent to 14-16 percent, but the red team expects to see a slight increase in revenues in the third quarter of the year.

Apple, on the other hand, has achieved significant growth on the Macbook side. It is thought that a record will be broken with 28 million sales during the year. While Intel still owns almost 80 percent of the market, it lost another big customer when Apple started producing its own M1 and M2 chips.

Companies such as Lenovo, HP, Asus and Dell are also expecting a general decline in their sales.
