Artificial intelligence pioneer OpenAI has made the first sign of the next generation of artificial intelligence technology by filing a trademark application for the new version of the popular artificial intelligence model ChatGPT, bearing the name “GPT-5”. The team behind ChatGPT has now officially filed a new trademark application for a technology that could be considered the company’s next-generation language model. Although the application made in the USA on July 18 does not contain explanations about all the features of the next generation language model, it contains some important information.
The application describes GPT-5 as “downloadable computer software for the artificial reproduction of human speech and text”. This statement indicates that the GPT-5 could possibly have fully AI-powered human speech capabilities like Siri, Google Assistant or Amazon’s Alexa. The application also states that GPT-5 will be used in the fields of “natural language processing, content creation, understanding and analysis”.As for the release date, the filing doesn’t provide any details on when the next-generation Large Language Model (LLM) will be released, but considering OpenAI’s release of GPT-4 in March this year, we can assume it’s quite a long time ahead. However, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in April that they were not working on the GPT-5 model and that they would not start training the model for a while.
