Google, which has invested heavily in productive AI capabilities so far, announced its upcoming Gemini AI system at Google I/O 2023. We’ve even heard claims from Google that Gemini will surpass ChatGPT, which has become one of the most popular productive AI tools on the planet. And new reports indicate that Google is preparing to release the official version of its Gemini AI model.
News about Gemini’s upcoming release comes from The Information. While access to The Information’s reporting requires payment, in a nutshell, Google has reportedly granted a small group of companies access to its Gemini AI system. The site, which has reported such situations accurately before, lists people who are “familiar with the subject” as the source of information.
Gemini is intended to compete with OpenAI’s GPT-4 model, currently the most powerful conversational AI system. GPT-4 underpins multiple AI systems, including ChatGPT Plus and even Microsoft’s Bing AI. Due to the popularity of ChatGPT, it can be safely said that Google will face serious competition from Gemini AI. If Gemini isn’t as successful as Google praises, the company could lose all of its prestige in the world of conversational AI, and Google would probably not be happy about that.
The emergence of even more competition into the world of artificial intelligence with the launch of Gemini could mean new possibilities for consumers. Of course, there is Claude 2, which competes well with ChatGPT, but ChatGPT is still the most widely known generative AI system. If Google’s Gemini manages to even come close to ChatGPT’s effectiveness and success, we could see further improvements to ChatGPT as well as a major shift in the AI space.
Google is also well-positioned to expand Gemini into other parts of its business, such as the Android operating system, ChromeOS, and other apps it decides to develop in the future.
