Apple’s big competitors have been teasing the iPhone with advertising campaigns for many years. After all, there’s a reason why Apple is the largest phone maker in the world, the company produces phones that dominate the market.
On the other hand, the iPhone is not perfect and even the new model can’t compete with some features of other flagship devices. So Google took advantage of these shortcomings to create a really funny ad campaign that mocked the iPhone without making any outrageous accusations.
On Wednesday, Google shared five commercials on YouTube in which it announced the #BestPhonesForever campaign. In each of the ads, we see an iPhone and a Pixel giving a speech highlighting a feature or capability of the Pixel phone.
The first ad focuses on the Pixel constantly gaining new capabilities while the iPhone continues to evolve in a straight line:
The second ad compares the Pixel’s astrophoto mode to the iPhone’s Night mode:
In the third ad, the iPhone is afraid of hackers on its public Wi-Fi network, noting that the Pixel comes with its own VPN:
The fourth ad is about Pixel’s ability to wirelessly charge other Qi-certified phones:
Finally, the iPhone meets a Pixel Fold and is smitten by the prospect of a foldable phone:
Whether you’re an iPhone aficionado or a Google Pixel fan, the well-meaning fun of these ads is to be appreciated. Intentionally comparing your product to the most popular phone in existence is a fine line, but Google has managed to keep a flawless tone in this campaign.
Of course, these ads aren’t enough to convince everyone to switch from iPhone to Pixel, but they’re definitely more entertaining than the Apple commercials we’ve seen on TV lately.
