The Google Android Auto application provides users with various conveniences while driving, such as accessing Google Maps and connecting the phone to vehicle multimedia. Last year, Google announced that Android Auto cannot be used with Android 12. The company kept the app available for Android 11 and earlier versions. However, according to the statement made today, the technology giant is completely removing the application for all Android versions.
Users using Android 11 or older versions started to encounter the warning “Android Auto for phone screens will be unavailable soon” when they open the app. Android Auto is still available, but this warning reappears every time I log into the app. Google has confirmed that the app has been removed, but did not share any information about when it will stop working completely.
Google Assistant will be used instead of Android Auto
After the end of Android Auto, drivers were wondering which application will replace them. Google said in a statement that this application is not going away in cars that support Android Auto, and they recently made a major UI update. The company stated that they will start using Google Assistant Driving Mode for those who use this application with their phone. No other statement was made on the subject.
Google Assistant Driving Mode, available with Android 12, offers a driving experience in which Google Maps and Google Assistant are integrated. Even though it is different in terms of visual and usage, Google Assistant Driving Mode has similar features to Android Auto.
Even with similar features, the mod is not as useful as Android Auto and you have to constantly enter a destination in Google Maps to activate it. Whether the Google Assistant Driving Mode will search for Android Auto seems to be determined after the updates and its full launch.
