As part of Internet Safety Day, Google announced that it is making changes to the default settings of its image search service. The company announced that the new policy will protect users from inappropriate content.

Inappropriate images will be blurred

According to the Google blog post, SafeSearch will soon be enabled by default for all users, and this setting will blur images of obscenity and violence in search results. Blurred images will contain buttons where the user can click to cancel the blur or turn off the filter altogether.

If the Google account is registered to an adult, it will also be possible to disable this option in the account settings. Children and those who use search without logging into a Google account will continue to use the secure version of the service. Google has yet to set a date for the SafeSearch policy change. The new rules are expected to come into effect in the coming months.
