While Android should be the target flag for Google Pixel phones’ update lifespan, that’s not the case. Even though we started seeing three years of major OS updates with the Pixel 6 series, Google was still a year behind Samsung and definitely behind Apple. However, with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro models that will be introduced soon, Google plans to change this situation.

5 years Android update support

We can say that the Pixel 8’s five-year operating system update is exactly what the Android market needs. According to an emerging report, the Pixel 8 series will be the first series to receive five years of Pixel updates. This is certainly something promising and will set a new industry standard. Since the Galaxy S21, Samsung has been beating Google on its own platform for a while by giving out four major operating system updates.

Time will tell what Google’s decision will mean for other Android OEM manufacturers, but it is not thought that Samsung will agree to stay behind Google. While Android updates generally still haven’t caught up with Apple’s iOS support, the Pixel 8 will make a big leap forward in longevity that has long been lacking in Android phones. Finally, in the light of the available information, it is said that the new Pixel devices will be released in early October.
