Although Android 13 has been launched for a short time, Google has already started working on Android 14. The company, which plans to take important steps especially in security, plans to include some application restrictions in the new version of Android.
Android 14 will not allow old app installs
According to the information received, with Android 14, users will be prevented from installing old applications. Google already provides minimum API level requirements for apps in the Play Store, thus blocking outdated apps. Despite all these measures, users can install APKs of applications on their devices.
Google, on the other hand, plans to prevent this situation with Android 14. Accordingly, stricter API requirements will be implemented in the new Android version. After the new rules, users will not be able to upload APK files of applications that do not meet the API level. In addition, applications that do not comply with the instructions through third-party app stores will be blocked.
It will primarily block apps targeting older versions of Android 14. In addition, Google wants to raise the Android 6.0 Marshmallow threshold and gradually increase this level. In this way, the company plans to prevent malware that specifically targets older versions.
Users will still have the option to install legacy apps on their device via a new command, but it won’t be as simple as installing an APK. By complicating the process, Google wants to reduce the chances of users accidentally installing a malware-laden app on their device.
