Stores such as Google Play Store and App Store host millions of applications. While many of these make our lives easier, some of them contain hidden dangers. Finally, one of these dangerous applications appeared on the Android front.

It turned out that a popular photo editing application on the Google Play Store stole users’ passwords. The application, which focuses especially on social media shares, transfers the personal information it obtains to a Russian server.

Call from Google to Android users

Google recently removed an app called Craftsart Cartoon Photo Tools from its store. The sudden removal of the photo editing application, which has been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times, surprised many, while its rationale created security concerns.

Explaining that they suspect the application’s background traffic, the Google Play Store announced that they came across a trojan named Facestealer after detailed examination. Thanks to the software in question, hackers gain access to users’ card information, private conversations and social media account passwords.

Although the app has been removed from the Google Play Store, it is installed on hundreds of thousands of phones. For this reason, the company asks users to remove the application immediately with its call. In addition, all passwords must be changed and two-step authentication must be turned on.

The main concern is that similar applications are increasing day by day. Despite the strict rules enforced by the Google Play Store and App Store, hackers find a way to circumvent the measures. Users are advised to read reviews and review the developer company before installing.
