Google warned Android users
For those who don’t know, the Android operating system has offered support to third-party applications and application stores since the first day it was introduced. However, in recent weeks, Google has implemented a new security process specifically for APKs. In the midst of these discussions, Google CEO Sundar Pichai made an important comment for Android users.
Regarding the issue, CEO Pichai said, “We do not want to let you completely jeopardize your phone. This could install malware on your phone. So it can really compromise your security. ” said. In short, Google says that although this functionality provides flexibility, it can lead to security breaches if used carelessly. However, considering Android’s current policy, this is a bit surprising.
The good thing is that Pichai stated that installing apps from outside the Play Store will always be allowed on Android. However, increasing security concerns may result in further limitations on this functionality.
We should also point out that a similar dilemma is experienced on the Apple front. Although the company has long opposed the sideloading process, we may see it backtracking on this decision due to both pressure from application developers and the EU’s Digital Services Act (DMA). In fact, important clues about sideloading appeared in the recent iOS 17.2 beta codes.
