Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, announced that they set out to form a separate business unit dedicated to the development of next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) inventions and products.
Google aims to accelerate its progress in artificial intelligence by creating a new artificial intelligence unit, Google DeepMind. This unit was formed by merging Google Research’s Brain team and London-based artificial intelligence company DeepMind.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated the goal of combining AI talent into one focused team:
The new unit aims to build artificial intelligence systems in a safer and more responsible way and is led by experienced researchers like Jeff Dean. Pichai explained that the purpose of the creation of the AI-focused unit was to “ensure the bold and responsible development of general artificial intelligence”. It has been announced that these developments will be used in Google products, but the details of the application are not yet known.
