Google is now making Chrome OS available on non-Chromebook devices. The company launched an early access program for a version of Chrome OS called Chrome OS Flex. Available as a free download, Chrome OS Flex will offer the Chrome OS experience on Windows PCs and Macs.
Chrome OS experience coming to Macs
Designed specifically with education and business in mind, Chrome OS Flex will replace the existing Windows or MacOS installation on devices. In addition, the company states that the new operating system runs faster on older devices than slow operating systems.
Google offers the official Chrome Browser, Google Assistant and cross-device features in Chrome OS Flex in the same user interface as Chrome OS. The new operating system does not support Google Play and Android apps.
Users will be able to test the new cloud-based operating system for free by creating a bootable Chrome OS Flex USB drive without installing it on their device. Those who are satisfied with the experience or those who want to download directly will be able to complete their transactions in just a few minutes, according to the company.
Google, 2020 Back in 2007, it acquired Neverware, which offers an app called CloudReady that allows users to convert their old computers into Chrome OS devices. Chrome OS Flex, available in early access, is also built on top of CloudReady. CloudReady customers will upgrade to Chrome OS Flex for free when a stable version of the operating system becomes available.
Those who want to use Chrome OS Flex, whose stable version is expected to be released in the coming months, can be included in the early access program, but it should be noted that users may encounter some errors because it does not have a stable structure.
