The biggest name in the internet world, Google, was accused of tracking users even in private tabs in 2020. In the accusation, it was stated that the Chrome browser continued to collect data with visits in incognito tabs. A $5 billion lawsuit was sought against Google for following millions of users.
While this case is still controversial today, the business has started to approach the court. Because, Judge Yvonne Gonzalez-Rogers of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California made a decision that would put Google into a frenzy.
Google will be prosecuted in court:
Judge Yvonne dismissed Google’s request for sentencing without a hearing. In other words, she wanted this case to be resolved through the court by taking the statements of the parties. The reason for the lawsuit was Google’s questions about how clear and understandable its incognito warnings were.
Google has not given any information to date that the incognito mode will not track the user in any way. But at the same time, the sentences in their policy about whether it is collected were also unclear to many users.
Judge Yvonne also pointed to the Chrome privacy statement, Privacy Policy, and this mode’s start screen, search page, and help page about how incognito mode limits the information stored or how people can control the information they share, saying:
A counter statement came from Google:
Google spokesperson José Castañeda made a statement following Judge Yvonne’s decision and said that they opposed the decision:
In summary, Google has said from the very beginning that it can collect data, albeit limited, in incognito mode, and the accuser claims that they are not aware of this. It is certain that the case will go to court, at least for now.
