A few months ago, it was learned that Google was planning to introduce the ability to manually add passwords to Chrome. While this feature is not yet available in stable releases, it looks like the company is looking to further develop this feature before it’s generally available.

According to one of Neowin’s news leak sources, Redditor u/Leopeva64-2, and as seen in the screenshot above, Chrome Canary now lets you annotate saved passwords. The “Note” field appears both when manually adding a new password and when editing existing credentials.

While Google has not yet clarified the exact purpose of this feature, one possible use would be to keep a list of security questions or store information about when you last changed the password and when it was set to expire automatically, among others.

While some people in the Reddit thread have expressed concerns about whether this information will be encrypted, considering Google’s handling of sensitive information, it will only be available after rigorous testing and ensuring that cybersecurity best practices are in place. can be assumed to present.
