According to Reuters, the US state of Texas officials sued Google for illegally collecting biometric data of millions of people in the state using products such as Google Photos, Google Assistant and Nest Hub Max.

The lawsuit states that there has been a law in Texas for more than a decade that has prohibited companies from collecting photos, voice recordings, and other biometric data of individuals without properly obtaining their informed consent.

Texans have become “cash cows”

The lawsuit also alleges that Google has been in flagrant violation of this law, collecting biometric data from countless Texans since at least 2015 and using their faces and voices for commercial purposes. Even a striking analogy has been made in this regard.

Texans across the state are said to have become “cash cows” milked for profit by Google. On the other hand, let us remind you that the lawsuit in question is not the first lawsuit filed against Google in the USA for improper use of user data.

At the beginning of October, the state of Arizona fined the company $85 million for illegally collecting users’ location data. In January of this year, lawsuits were filed in Texas, Indiana, Washington State, and the District of Columbia regarding the same matter.
