No more updates will be released for Pixel 4a
Pixel 4a was released in August 2020. The phone, which came with minor changes compared to the Pixel 3a, was not liked by some users. The release date of the phone also has a big impact on its lack of interest. It came out just a few weeks before the launch of the Pixel 5. Users looking for a pure Android experience naturally preferred to switch to Pixel 5 instead of the older model.
Pixel 4a was also not on the list when the Android 14 developer preview was released. It was clear at the time that Google was discontinuing support for the software; It has now become official. It is a sad situation that the company, which is supposed to be a pioneer in software support, has stopped supporting its three-year-old device. For comparison’s sake, the iPhone XR, released in 2018, received the iOS 17 update. However, after the iPhone 15 was released, older models, including the iPhone 14 Pro, were deliberately slowed down.
Hopefully, the Pixel 4a will be the last device for which software support is terminated early, and with the Pixel 8 to be introduced in October, Google will renew its update policy and start giving updates to devices for a longer period of time.
