Today, the internet is becoming more and more important among our needs every day. Especially during and after the pandemic, with many people starting to work from home, the need for stable and high-speed internet is increasing day by day.
Many Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are also working to provide better service to their users. Of course, Google is among these companies. The US technology giant offers fiber internet service in various parts of the world, especially in the USA.
Tests 8 Gbps internet
The company announced in its blog post today that it will test 5 and 8 Gbps fiber internet systems in various states of the USA. But here we need to make a little information. The 8 Gbps speed that Google mentions is not calculated in the same way as the internet speeds in our country.
To explain with examples, a user with a speed of 24 Mbps in our country gets a download speed of 2-2.4 Mbps while downloading. Google offers its users 8 Gbps download speeds per second.
In addition to the 5 Gbps and 8 Gbps internet packages that were announced to be first tested in Salt Lake City in the US state of Utah, the company already has packages with 1 Gbps and 2 Gbps download speeds. Each package offers users 1 TB Google cloud storage outside the internet, free Wi-Fi mesh system and 24/7 free support. In addition, the maximum speed that all internet service providers except Google can offer in Salt Lake City is only 212 Mbps.
Google’s fiber internet packages and prices
Internet Package | Monthly Price |
---|---|
1 Gbps Download | 70 dollars |
2Gbps Download | 100 dollars |
5Gbps Download | 125 dollars |
8Mbps Download | 150 dollars |
Unfortunately, Google’s internet service, which is much more affordable compared to its competitors, is currently not available in our country. However, in the blog post published by Google, it was stated that they will make this service available in more countries after 8 Gbps tests. We hope Google makes this service available in our country as soon as possible.
