A malicious app on Playstore has been removed from the store by Android without causing a lot of trouble to users. Although Android tries to protect its users against malicious applications, the application was active in the late hours and went unnoticed for a long time.
The details of the application, which was downloaded by 50 thousand people on Google Playstore, are in our news. In the last part, we talked about how to protect you from malicious programs…
Here is the Android application downloaded by 50 thousand users!
“Fast Cleaner”, which advertises itself as a battery saver and phone booster, has been downloaded by approximately 50 thousand users. The application, which deceived its users with an old tactic, injected a new trojan horse into their phones.
With the installed trojan, the application stole the credentials of its users. It also blocked incoming message notifications to its users. With the work done by Threatfabric, all the details of the software have emerged. Fast Cleaner’s malicious trojan was named “Xenomorph”.
Discovered about 3 months ago and similar to the Alien trojan, the software has not been able to achieve all its malicious purposes. Xenomorph, which is still in the “Inphancy” stage, can be activated at any time by using different applications. The malicious app analyzed by ThreatFabric is allegedly created by “ilzeeva4”, which is probably not a real developer.
How can Android users be protected from such viruses?
If you are one of the 50 thousand Android users who first downloaded this application, it is not enough to delete the application. We recommend that you contact your bank first and check your statements. After changing the passwords of your accounts, you should also cancel your virtual cards, if any.
By using a second device to protect yourself from such software in the future, it will be much safer for your information to use two-factor authentication. You need to regularly check the permissions of the apps you download.
Also, you need to actively use “Application Security” on your phone. This app checks apps even after Android’s app verification system. Unlike other programs, the scan runs silently in the background and doesn’t bother you unless it finds anything suspicious.
