While the tension between Israel and Palestine continues, the images spread on the internet, which is the biggest source of information, radically affect the thoughts of the masses. Accurate information plays a critical role in times of crisis, as it always does, as it is easy to spread misinformation.

For this very reason, the European Union warned Google’s parent company, Alphabet, about false and illegal information spread on YouTube. Especially the fact that the majority of the platform’s audience consists of children and teenagers makes the problem in question more important than it is.

EU official says Google, responsible for YouTube, should act more responsibly.

Thierry Breton stated that a site that people use to access information (Google) should protect its users from false information, propaganda and disturbing images, and stated that he expects a report from Google regarding the warnings in question.

Apart from this, Breton asked for transparency on this issue and added that sanctions could be applied unless we act together.

A similar situation started for X, but things are worse for him.

European Union officials had argued that posts about Hamas-Israel had made X a center of disinformation. Elon Musk opposed this approach.

Linda Yaccarino said that posts about the conflicts between Hamas and Israel were examined with great care and tens of thousands of posts were removed. Stating that the feature called “Community Notes”, in which users can participate personally, was made available for thousands of shares, the CEO said that hundreds of accounts, including those found to be directly linked to terrorist groups, were closed. However, the investigation for X has been officially launched.
