US-based technology giant Google made important statements about its own messaging standard, RCS, today. According to Google’s statements, the number of RCS users has exceeded the 1 billion monthly user threshold. Google announced this important statement with a number of new features.
Google RCS is a technology that will one day replace the SMS and MMS standard. But one of the obstacles to the service’s widespread adoption over the years has been Apple. Apple did not need RCS support when it had iMessage service. But now this is behind us. Making a statement in the past weeks, Apple officially announced that it will start providing RCS support for the iOS ecosystem. As such, there is no obstacle for RCS to grow further.
So, what new features have arrived in the RCS-supported Google Messages application?
The first new feature that Google started to offer to users was the ability to turn all photos into message reactions. Users will now be able to convert any message or photo they receive into a reaction and send it to the other party.
Making all photos convertible is not the only innovation of Google Messages regarding message reactions. Google conducted a study on the 10 most popular emojis. With this work, these reaction emojis will be displayed on the screen with brand new animations.
Another innovation of Google is about users’ voice messages. Users will be able to add animated emojis to a voice message they send. Thus, a brand new option will be added to the messaging experience.
Google Messages app can now create full-screen effects for some texts. For example, when you type “I love you”, you will see an effect that covers the entire screen. This feature will remind some of us of MSN.
Google’s RCS-supported messaging app will also allow changing the chat bubbles and background color. This feature can be considered a feature that will never come to iMessage.
The latest innovation added to the Google Messages application is that users will be able to create a profile for their account. In this way, users will have better information about messages from users who are not registered in their contacts.
Google said that the new features it has prepared for the Messages application will reach users gradually. However, a clear schedule for new features was not shared.
