The latest smartphone chart published for the US market points to interesting changes in customer purchases. Apple, which remains at the top of sales with every new iPhone launch, lost its share against the Google Pixel 9 series in the last months of 2024.
Google Pixel 9 managed to capture iPhone 16 customers
In the period following the launch of Pixel 9 in September, the increase in Pixel’s market share is noticeable. During the same period, Apple’s market share is decreasing visibly. This period includes iPhone 16 models released on September 20.
Contrary to expectations, instead of stimulating iPhone sales, US consumers seem to have shown great interest in Google Pixel models. By October, Pixel managed to grab a share of Apple’s leadership with its third place position.
Samsung’s maintenance of its second place position revealed Pixel’s direct iPhone customers. Google seems to have managed to attract attention with Pixel 9’s artificial intelligence features and attractive pricing.
Alphabet’s latest earnings report also revealed that Pixel 9 demand is high. Revenues in the “Google subscriptions, platforms and devices” category grew 29 percent year over year, which includes Pixel sales.
Although Google still ranks third overall in the US market, the data revealed that the Pixel series is rapidly closing the gap with its biggest competitors. The innovations planned for Pixel 10 and the company’s processor may further intensify this competition.
