Adds data security section to apps in Google Play Store. This new section called “data security” that Google will add to the applications in the Android app store Play Store, as the name suggests, is a section where developers will need to provide more information about the data they collect through their applications. The information given here covers the following items:
- Does the application collect data, and if so, for what purpose?
- Is the collected data shared with third parties?
- How does the application secure the data it collects?
- Are the data security systems used by the application compatible with global data security standards?
Google believes this level of transparency will give users the confidence to download apps from the Play Store knowing exactly how their data will be used. The company says this section will be available today, but developers will be asked to fill in the details by July 20.
