READING NOW Google is retiring the HTML version of Gmail
Google will retire the basic HTML version of Gmail in January 2024 to focus on the more advanced version. This change by the search giant was noticed by some users in Gmail support documents.

In its statement on the subject, the company stated, “You can view Gmail in Basic HTML view in your browser until January 2024. After this date, Gmail will automatically switch to Standard view.”

Speaking to The Register website, a Google spokesperson stated that the Basic HTML view is an older version of Gmail and does not include all Gmail functionality. However, we should point out that this decision was not welcomed by some users.

Google gave a signal

In particular, it was stated that many visually impaired users prefer the HTML version of Gmail and will not be happy with this change. This is because the text-based HTML interface adapts better to assistive technologies such as screen readers.

It is emphasized that Google has made it more difficult to find the Basic HTML interface in recent months, and this is already a harbinger of these changes.
